Wisdom of Iyas Ibn Muawiyah

A man came to Iyas Ibn Mu'awiyah, a Muslim judge well known for his intelligence, and the accompanying discussion occurred between them:

Man: What is the Islamic decision with respect to wine?

Judge: It is Haram (Forbidden).

Man: How about water?

Judge: It is Halal (Permissible).

Man: How about dates and grapes?

Judge: They are Halal.

Man: Why is it that every one of these fixings are Halal, but then when you join them, they moved toward becoming Haram?

The judge took a gander at the man and stated: If I hit you with this bunch of earth, do you figure it would hurt you?

Man: It would not.

Judge: How about on the off chance that I hit you with this bunch of straw?

Man: It would not hurt me.

Judge: How about a bunch of water?

Man: It without a doubt would not hurt me.

Judge: How about on the off chance that I blend them, and let them dry to wind up a block, and after that hit, you with it, would it hurt you?

Man: It would hurt me and may even slaughter me!

Judge: similar thinking applies to what you asked me!!

Iyas Ibn Muawiyah Al-Muzani was a tabi'i Qadi (judge) in the second century AH who lived in Basra (cutting edge Iraq). He was eminent for having enormous intelligence which turned into a most loved subject in Arabic legends
